The Sun and the Hare
When Sun was young
he rode the Earth on Hare’s back
hot as thoughtlessness
he burned and Hare bucked and leaped
crossing mountains and myths
ice ages and oceans until,
jealous of a volcano, Sun eased
into the foothills, dismounted and
was about to drink the land dry
when he noticed Hare’s brown fur
glowing golden. Angry, but unable
to become incandescent, he tried
to reclaim what he thought was his.
But Hare was too fast
slipping away like Sun’s youth.
—If you enjoyed this and you are thinking 'how on EARTH can I support this young man' then why not...
